Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) is a series of six 2-hour FREE seminars on risk factors, complications, nutrition, and physical activity related to diabetes. Participants will receive instructions on how to correctly use a glucose meter, guidance on accessing community resources and building partnerships with a diabetes health care team. DEEP is based on national diabetes care and diabetes self-management education recommendations/guidelines. These seminars will be held on Thursday nights starting at 6:00 pm beginning June 11th at Sweet Union Baptist Church located at 801 South Dorrance Street in Palestine. In these FREE classes you will: Find out how diabetes affects your body Make sense of your blood sugar numbers Meet others who have diabetes Have fun learning in a small group through games, activities and support conversations The remaining seminars will take place on the following Thursdays – (skipping June 18th), June 25, July 2, July 9, (skipping July 16th), July 23 and July 30.
