Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) is a series of six 2-hour FREE seminars on risk factors, complications, nutrition, and physical activity related to diabetes. Participants will receive instructions on how to correctly use a glucose meter, guidance on accessing community resources and building partnerships with a diabetes health care team. DEEP is based on national diabetes care and diabetes self-management education recommendations/guidelines. These seminars will be held on Tuesday nights starting at 6:00 pm beginning July 7th at Greater New Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church located at 502 North Horace in Tyler. In these FREE classes you will: • Find out how diabetes affects your body • Make sense of your blood sugar numbers • Meet others who have diabetes • Have fun learning in a small group through games, activities and support conversations The remaining seminars will take place on the following Tuesdays – July 14, July 21, (skipping July 28th), August 4, Augusts 11, and August 18.
