Learn about diabetes risk factors and complications, as well as how to manage diabetes through better nutrition and physical activity by participating in the Diabetes Education Empowerment Program (DEEP). The first of six free classes will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the Glass Recreation Center, 501 West 32nd Street in Tyler. The remaining five classes will take place at the same time on consecutive Mondays: Sept. 15, Sept. 22, Sept. 29, Oct. 6, and Oct. 13. Topics include how to use a glucose meter correctly, how to access community resources, and how to build a partnership with their diabetes healthcare team. DEEP is based on national diabetes care and self-management recommendations and guidelines. At this session’s six free classes, you will: – Find out how diabetes affects your body – Make sense of your blood sugar numbers – Meet others who have diabetes – Have fun learning in a small group through games, activities, and supportive conversations The seminars are free, but registration is recommended.
