Dr. Kapoor was born, raised, and educated in Lucknow, India. After completing his graduation in 2010 from Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, Dr. Kapoor joined The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, USA, as an Odyssey Fellow for his postdoctoral research training. He enjoyed six years of postdoctoral research at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and then moved to The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, Texas, USA, in October 2016 as an Assistant Professor.

Dr. Kapoor’s lab is working to understand the molecular mechanisms of life threatening diseases such as Cancer and Cardiovascular disorders. His research expertise falls in the area of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Cell Biology.
Eukaryotic DNA is compacted and compartmentalized into the nucleus of the cell as chromatin where it regularly encounter both exogenous and endogenous DNA damaging agents, and if remain unrepaired, it may result in diseases such as Cancer. To deal with DNA damage, cell has developed a complicated system involving chromatin modifying complexes, sets of repair proteins and cell cycle regulatory factors to fix the DNA damage and to ensure the proper propagation of cell cycle. Dr. Kapoor’s lab is focused to understand the mechanisms of chromatin modification and chromatin-based regulation of cell cycle checkpoint in response to DNA damage. His research has implications in cancer therapeutics and diagnosis.
In parallel to understand cancer mechanisms, Dr. Kapoor’s lab is also trying to understand the molecular mechanisms of vascular disorders. Given his expertise in the area of actin biology, and that actin (a major cellular protein) is connected to many vascular diseases, Dr. Kapoor is trying to understand the mechanisms of actin and actin related proteins in vascular disorders.
